Kearney staff: dechlorination system arrived; riprap planned to curb creek erosion

Parks staff reported a new dechlorination system has arrived and will be installed to reduce chlorine levels before park runoff reaches Deer Creek. "The dechlorination system, has arrived, and Ray picked that up today," Eric said, adding staff plan to bury the unit and set a tamper‑proof lid over the water meter valve.
Ryan described bundling riprap for the spillway with the dechlorination work, saying, "Along with the dechlorination unit, we're riprapping all of the, Beer Creek there, and the spillway that leads into Beer Creek is just crushed stone, basically." He said riprap would help erosion issues on the north side of the park and slow flow to increase contact time for dechlorination before water reaches Deer Creek. Staff said the combined approach will support compliance with DNR regulations and reduce ongoing manual chlorine‑tab work.
