Staff recommended replacing an older vehicle with a McNelius M5 rear-loader (11 cubic yards capacity) to support the green yard waste collection program and said it was the result of prior committee review. The quoted purchase price was $192,145 from McQueen Equipment Company of Lake Orion, Michigan.
A staff presenter explained the department's operational reasoning: using a smaller, compacting 11-cubic-yard vehicle should allow the city to maintain service while operating a smaller truck that can be dumped once per day. Staff estimated delivery "within the next 6 weeks, 8 weeks" and said the truck would be a two-person operation; homeowners may purchase compatible totes for curbside collection.
Council also approved a motion to dispose of a 1997 interstate trailer by posting it on GovDeals. The disposal motion passed following staff recommendations.
