Calumet County highway commissioner warns proposed amendments to SB 179, AB 870 would restrict operations

Highway Commissioner Chad Scheinoha told the Calumet County Highway Committee on March 11 that the Wisconsin County Highway Association informed him of amendments to Senate Bill 179 and Assembly Bill 870 that are expected to receive a Senate vote on March 17, 2026. Scheinoha said the amendments "would be highly detrimental to Highway departments across the state" and asked the Committee to reach out to Representative Jacques to oppose those changes.
Committee members heard that the association and local highway officials view the amendments as likely to impose significant restrictions on department operations; the minutes record Scheinoha urging direct contact with the legislator before the vote. No formal motion on a county position was recorded during the meeting.
