Fire Chief Chris Lyons presented a proposal to authorize the purchase of a Jet-Ski and trailer for the Fire Department, an item budgeted in the 2026 Capital Budget. He framed the equipment as the next piece in the evolution of Bay Village's search-and-water-rescue program: the department previously moved from a dive team to a Rescue Swimmer Program, and Seabobs handle most rescues but an intermediate craft is needed between Seabobs and the boat.
Chief Lyons said the inflatable boat has reached its useful life and that the new Jet-Ski watercraft will fill an operational gap. A few department members will be trained to become Jet-Ski Rescue Watercraft Instructors and then teach other members; equipment delivery is expected within weeks and training is scheduled before Memorial Day. The ordinance to authorize the purchase is on the Regular Meeting agenda.
