Commission approves rooftop solar at 221 E. Beverly after applicant removes two visible panels

At the meeting's old-business agenda item, Lowell Brown returned to present revisions to a previously considered rooftop solar installation at 221 East Beverly Street. Brown said Tiger Solar recommended removing two panels that had been visible from the sidewalk walking downhill toward downtown; removing them would reduce the array's output by about 10 percent, but Brown said they were satisfied with that trade-off.
Commissioners discussed whether the panels could be placed on an outbuilding or carport to regain output, but Brown noted that would be more visible or more expensive due to running the electrical from a different location. After staff confirmed the new drawings did not show the previously-criticized panels, a motion to approve the installation as submitted was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The commission thanked Brown for the resubmission and noted the importance of minimizing visibility of solar equipment from public rights-of-way in the historic district.
