SCOE presents LCAP goals to trustees; board offers recommendations on interventions, transitions and career readiness

The Solano County Office of Education presented an updated Local Control and Accountability Plan and asked trustees to provide recommendations to refine goals and implementation.
Dr. Valerie Garrett outlined five LCAP goals — improving academic performance through targeted instruction and trauma-informed practice (Goal 1); transition supports and individualized academic planning (Goal 2); college and career readiness with a 90-consecutive-day eligibility threshold for some services (Goal 3); intensive wellness and mental-health supports (Goal 4); and targeted services for foster and homeless youth (Goal 5). "LCAP goal 1, increase student learning and academic performance levels through engaging and targeted instruction that incorporates academic intervention supports, trauma informed practices, and student data analysis through an equity focused lens," Garrett said.
Trustees responded with concrete recommendations. Trustee Dean urged trustees to lean on existing effective practices and to add suggestions incrementally; another trustee recommended peer-to-peer mentoring and greater emphasis on student perspectives to measure success. On Goal 3, trustees suggested regular mock interviews, industry guest speakers and CTE field trips to build real-world connections for students. For services to foster and homeless youth, trustees and staff discussed targeted donation lists and partnerships to connect families confidentially with community resources.
Staff committed to incorporate trustee feedback into the LCAP revisions and reminded the board that remaining educational partner meetings will inform the final plan.
