Grant coordinator outlines bridge repairs, guardrail and sign-package awards and upcoming RFPs

Townshend’s grant coordinator reported the Bridge 43 repair award (work likely in August), an engineering RFP and later bridge replacement RFP for Bridge 41 planned for early June/July award, a possible 50/50 communities-canopy match, HSIP guardrail funding covering 2,505 linear feet, and a municipal sign package awarded to Townshend at no town cost.
The Townshend grant coordinator walked the board through awarded and pending grant projects affecting town transportation and facilities.
She said Bridge 43 repair work has been awarded and is likely to begin in August. An engineering study RFP for Bridge 41 will be issued early June with a later RFP for replacement; the grant coordinator said the town is building a contractor list and expects to return to the board with an award during the second select-board meeting in July. She reported Townshend was one of four Vermont towns selected for a municipal sign package that appears to cost the town nothing under the award terms.
The coordinator also described several pending applications: a Better Roads culvert application for culvert #9 on Athens Road, a Municipal Highway Stormwater Mitigation scoping study for a failure on East Hill Road, a Communities Caring for Canopy grant (a 50–50 match for tree/hazard removal on Windham Hill Road), and an HSIP guardrail application that seeks funding for approximately 2,505 linear feet of metal guardrail with no local match. She noted the UVM capstone transportation-improvement study will deliver results in May and that some applications (including AARP) remain in progress.
