Board advances Ordinance 609 to ban brake retarders on several township roads

The board reviewed Ordinance 609, an amendment to section 127.15 of the township code that would prohibit the use of brake retarders on multiple roads, and voted to approve the ordinance.
“This is an ordinance the board has before us commanding section 127.15 on our township code,” the solicitor said, summarizing the proposed prohibition and listing streets where the restriction would apply. He told the board the police had conducted a study of the locations and identified Sweet Road, Pike (entire length), portions of Hot Shop Road, North Wales Road and Trooper Road as areas included in the ordinance. The solicitor also explained that, as with other ordinances, penalties and appeal procedures would apply if the prohibition were violated.
Board members asked whether new signage would be required and were told by staff that PennDOT approval is needed for some locations, and that the township will install signage where permissible. The board moved, seconded and approved the ordinance on a voice vote.
