Staff said the new process, prepared with input from the controller’s office, the city attorney and police, is intended to streamline requests for parades, 5Ks, bike rides and farmers markets.
"So we wanted to kind of get it into a situation where the board... could be used to seeing, like, a standard form and then decide where that needed to go for approval," a staff member said, explaining the intent to route applications to police and public‑works reviewers. After the board adopted the resolution and the accompanying forms, members moved to approve the Pacmac (MAC) bike ride scheduled for June 26 on the condition that organizers submit the required paperwork and obtain any listed approvals.
The resolution approval was unanimous by voice vote. The board emphasized that, going forward, short‑notice requests (such as temporary alley closures) should use the standardized form so staff can coordinate with police, public works and other parties.
