Miller estimated the county’s planned dust-control purchases would total roughly $390,000 at the new price.
"It's $215 a ton now," Miller said as he explained the change in unit cost and the budgetary effect. Commissioners asked about competitive levels and expressed concern about the increase; Miller confirmed two bidders responded and that rail access gives the local supplier an advantage on delivered cost. The board received the update and did not take an immediate purchasing vote at the meeting.
