City staff present demographic snapshot as master plan survey runs through Jan. 31

Valerie Derrick, deputy director of parks and recreation, presented the first deliverable from consultant Barry Dunn: a demographic snapshot that the city and department will use to shape a Parks & Recreation master plan. "Our population characteristics since 2000, North Las Vegas population has grown over 155% from over 115,000 residents to 294,000 residents in 2025," Derrick said, and staff highlighted a projection of about 4,000 new residents annually.
Derrick told the advisory board the snapshot covers population density, age-distribution trends, racial and ethnic composition, and ward-level differences that will influence programming and facility needs. She said the city will push a community survey through Jan. 31 to reach a statistically valid sample and that results will be returned to the board and posted online. Board members asked for comparisons with neighboring cities and for the slide material to be emailed; Ian Brown and other members praised the outreach and requested future briefings on turf conversion and the Sparkle project.
