Commission's sewer-capacity subcommittee readies draft; multi-year capital projects prioritized

Commission staff told the board the sewer-capacity subcommittee has compiled town assessor data, land records and engineering inputs and used OCR/AI tools to digitize records; staff said they hope to present a draft to the subcommittee in August and a fuller report to the commission in October. "I'm hoping that in August, we'll be able to have a draft report ready for the subcommittee to look at," staff said, noting that some previously approved tie-ins had not been assessed and that the study will include buffers for those uncertainties.
Separately, staff outlined near- and medium-term capital projects: the Bridal Brook station is a priority for upgrades, Niantic's new force main under the river is in design and listed for state clean-water funding, Fairhaven pump station will receive a new generator and control upgrades, and several underground storage tanks have been replaced or scheduled for removal. Commissioners discussed floodproofing challenges at Niantic and technical hurdles to installing flow meters in older stations.
