Treasurer says refurbished check reader ordered and requests approval to replace outdated computer

The treasurer reported that she ordered a refurbished automatic check reader that cost $480 and said it should arrive soon, replacing an older bank-dependent workflow. "It's a refurbished 1, so it's cheaper than the, 1 that got canceled last year. It's $480," the treasurer said.

She told the board her current computer cannot be upgraded to the operating system the bank requires and is no longer receiving security updates, leaving town financial systems at risk. She said there is $1,600 remaining in the current budget and roughly $9,000 in a reserve account and asked the Selectboard to confirm that she may spend funds on a replacement and pay for setup assistance. "There's $1,600 in the current budget left, and there's also 9,000 and change in the reserve account," she said.

Board members suggested obtaining quotes for setup and assistance from the town's past vendor (Vermont Digital), a local contractor and the bank-recommended provider. The treasurer said she will follow up with vendors and attempt to have the new equipment and configuration ready by mid-June. The board did not require pre-authorization beyond advising the treasurer to collect estimates and coordinate with staff for setup.
