"I move the senate adjourn until Tuesday, March 17 at 9AM," Sen. Klumich said on the floor, and the presiding officer called for the vote. The motion "prevails and the Senate is adjourned until Tuesday, March 17 at 9AM," the chair announced.
The decision came after several members described difficult driving conditions across the state. Sen. Dotzler, speaking on a point of personal privilege, said he had driven in the storm despite road closures and urged leaders to make delay decisions earlier. "This is my 24th session in the Iowa senate, and I've never missed a floor vote," he said, recounting a moment when "an individual coming my way a few minutes before I got there, spun out, went across my lane, and ended up in the ditch." Dotzler said he would "appreciate a better concern for the members of this body in the future," arguing earlier direction would reduce risk to senators.
Sen. Evans also noted improvements in meteorological forecasting but said he came early to fulfill responsibilities to constituents. The Senate adjourned without taking additional legislative action that day.
