City Engineer Ryan Cummins presented a recommendation to award the Chester Road resurfacing contract for the federally funded NOACA/ODOT project (PID 120604). Six bids were received on March 6; Geauga Highway Company was the apparent low bidder and Cummins recommended considering the bid as lowest and best. He said "Federal funding covers 80% of construction costs, with the City responsible for 20% plus construction administration costs," and estimated work could begin in four to eight weeks with possible night work depending on weather.
Cummins noted the low bid came in roughly 10% under the next bidder and that market factors and contractor scheduling likely contributed. Council will consider the formal award on the consent/regular agenda at subsequent meetings per the ordinance schedule.
