Staff said it had sent a geocoded text message to 562 residents and received 72 responses; the city’s traffic engineer TransTech had reviewed the corridor and recommended consideration of traffic-calming measures that accommodate emergency vehicle needs (preferred speed-cushion designs with wheel-slits). Commissioners suggested broader outreach, including multi-language literature, door-to-door surveys and newsletters, and discussed rumble plates as an alternative to vertical bumps. Staff said additional outreach and an engineering evaluation would precede any installation decision.
"We did send out a survey... we reached out to 562 individuals and we only receive responses from 72 individuals," staff said.
Commissioners emphasized safety concerns near a school and urged more personal outreach to ensure residents — including seniors and non-English households — have an opportunity to respond and that fire/EMS needs are incorporated into any design. Staff said they will pursue more targeted outreach and report back with refined engineering recommendations.
