Council approved an interlocal cooperation contract with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) to use its Regional Security Operations (RSOC) services for municipal cybersecurity. Staff said the program is part of a federal grant model used by other municipalities and school districts and that UTRGV will monitor city workstations and the police station after staff deploys the monitoring software.
"It is no charge to us to have that, security," staff said, describing the service as free to the city. Councilors asked about duration and deployment logistics; staff said the interlocal arrangement would be reviewed periodically and that deployment requires on-site installation at each workstation. A motion to approve the interlocal contract was made, seconded and passed on roll call.
