The Kingsford City Council on June 1 authorized the purchase of 462 new water meters and meter radio antennas from Core and Main for $149,688. The purchase was approved unanimously after staff noted Core and Main offered a $20-per-unit reduction at the proposed volume. "We need approximately 300 meters for Project 4 this Fall," the meeting record states as part of the purchase rationale.
Councilors and staff said replacing old meters is a priority to reduce suspected water loss and improve billing accuracy. The motion authorizing the purchase was moved by Council Member Daniel Freeman and seconded by Council Member Angela Olson. The council recorded no opposing votes.
