The board approved creating a grants-administration position by reframing a vacant account technician role. Auditor-Treasurer Kelly Schroeder explained the position will split its funding 50/50 between the general fund and Health & Human Services (HHS) fund to reflect its cross-departmental responsibilities.
Schroeder told the board the county manages roughly 40 grants and special programs and that departments’ reporting sometimes does not match the county’s financial system; the new position will help align program reporting and capture indirect costs. “Between the two... I would say there's about 40,” Schroeder said when asked how many grants the role will touch. Commissioners approved the position by voice vote and discussed using indirect grant funds where available to offset costs.
