Susie's Place asks Sullivan County for $15,000 bridge funding to support child-abuse response

Emily Carey, CEO and founder of Susie's Place Child Advocacy Center, told the Sullivan County Council the nonprofit is requesting $15,000 in gap funding to maintain services for child-abuse victims while it pursues state-level funding.
Carey said Susie's Place serves Sullivan County out of a Terre Haute location and partners with local law enforcement, prosecutors and the Department of Child Services. "We're asking for $15,000," she said, adding that Indiana is one of six states that does not provide a state-level appropriation for child advocacy centers. Council members thanked the presenters, discussed possible opioid-fund sources and said the commissioners are evaluating county funding sources; staff indicated the commissioners may take up an appropriation that could be forwarded to the council at the next meeting.
