Council committee advances renaming, scope changes for DEI coalition

Members favored changing the name to the Access and Equity Action Committee to better reflect the group's mission and recommended removing pandemic‑specific language and streamlined appointment rules.
The committee discussed clarifying the group's goals — reviewing city policies, codes and legislation for inequities and making recommendations to the appropriate bodies — and recommended requiring the group to meet at least four times per year. Councilwoman Waring said the chair will work with the law director to draft new legislation. A motion to remove "the city's response to systemic racism" from committee passed 7–0.
