Caldwell Rural Fire proposes impact fee; Notus council tables decision

Mark Wendlesdorf of the Caldwell Rural Fire District told the Notus council on Feb. 17 that the district seeks an impact-fee partnership to maintain current service levels and asked the city to adopt an ordinance enabling the fee.
Wendlesdorf said the proposed fee would be set at $665 for each new residential home and businesses would be charged $0.33 per square foot; the district offered to pay its attorney to draft the ordinance and allow the city to keep $15 per collected fee for administrative costs. Council discussion followed and the item was tabled for later consideration.
No council vote to adopt an ordinance occurred; staff and council will review the legal authority and implications before acting further.
