Notus clerk reports check-fraud incident; police report and insurance claim filed

Notus City Clerk Loretta Vollmer told council on Feb. 17 that US Bank Fraud had contacted the city after finding a processed check on the dark web that had been altered.
Vollmer said the original check was written to WEX Bank for $122.16 for fuel; the intercepted check had been “washed,” made out in a person’s name, and cashed in Orange, Texas for $4,344.00. The city has filed a police report and submitted a claim to the Idaho Counties Risk Management Program (ICRMP).
Clerk Vollmer also provided routine operational statistics: Google Business profile showed 11 phone calls and 65 requests for directions; utilities billed $29,579.36 and the city received $10,672.41 in credit-card payments during the reporting period. She said two burn permits were issued.
