The council voted to approve hiring four new fire trainees—Shane Skelly, Cody Warren, Kelsey Miranda and Rick Kortekaas Jr.—pending background checks and physicals. Fire Department representative Dave Myers told the council the hires would increase staffing to 22, with space for five more; Councilor Andy MacDonell moved the hiring approval and Councilor Kevin Tinquist seconded. The motion passed with Mayor Josh Casper and Councilors MacDonell, Tinquist and Haarklau voting in favor.
Myers also reported the department received approximately $9,000 from the Department of Natural Resources after covering labor and fuel costs, listed recent equipment purchases funded by the city and said a new rescue truck has arrived but is not in service until a radio and camera are installed. He announced a donation of $20,452 to the Hook and Ladder; minutes note a resolution to accept the funds will be prepared for a future meeting.
