Notus authorizes up to $5,000 to clear Conway Gulch and protect 1st Street culvert

Notus city officials told the council Feb. 17 that a downstream blockage in Conway Gulch is backing up against the 1st Street culvert and threatens to undermine the roadway and a main water line. Council authorized contracting with Black Canyon Irrigation to clear the gulch and protect infrastructure, committing up to $5,000 toward the work.
Mike Meyers of Black Canyon Irrigation said the stream is technically within Farmers’ Co-op’s boundary but added that the co-op “washed their hands on any responsibility.” Meyers said clearing would take about a day and a half and that beavers are contributing to the problem. Rob Hartsock moved to authorize the work; Steve Ahlborn seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Council also discussed a 50-foot easement along the gulch that several residents appear to have encroached upon; staff was directed to communicate with affected residents about easement boundaries.
