The Cohasset City Council unanimously approved a recommendation to separate AWAIR payout risk pools for City Staff and Fire Department personnel. Tony Valtinson presented the safety committee’s proposal explaining the change would prevent injuries or lost-time incidents in one group from negatively affecting payout awards for the other.
Councilor Kevin Tinquist moved to approve the separation; Councilor Andy MacDonell seconded. The minutes note that "near misses are tracked but do not affect the payout; only the first reports of injury or lost time will be considered in the payout calculation." The council approved the change without recorded opposition.
