Board approves Cerami & Browning agreement and fence contract; change orders add costs to parking project

The Corning Union High School Board on March 20 approved several construction contracts and heard updates on active capital work at district sites. The Board unanimously approved a contract with Cerami & Browning Construction, Inc. for an ag-classroom addition. Trustees earlier approved that firm’s $2.615 million bid at a special meeting on Feb. 25.
At the same meeting the Board approved a $788,831.10 agreement with Northern California Fence for perimeter and athletic-field fencing. District project manager Zane Schrader told trustees the fencing is part of the larger scope of site-security improvements.
Several change orders related to the parking and softball infield project were presented after contractors reported unsuitable soils and site repairs. Project contractor Randy Hill Construction and subs Dawson Landscape and others asked for adjustments to pricing to remove unsuitable material, install geo-grid and compact fill in lifts; the Board approved the recommended changes. Construction staff told the Board the project total has been affected by change orders and is being tracked closely as the district finalizes the Facilities Master Plan and other projects.
"We’re addressing conditions as they’re found on site to keep the project moving, and we’ll bring back any additional cost changes to the Board," Project Manager Zane Schrader told the Board.
