The Corning Union High School District Board voted unanimously on March 20 to certify the district’s financial condition as positive for the 2024–25 fiscal year. The vote followed a presentation from Chief Business Officer Diana Davisson outlining revenues, expenditures and the district’s reserve position.
Davisson told trustees the second interim shows the district meeting its obligations across the current year and the following two years under the assumptions used in the projection. Trustee Larry Glover moved for the positive certification; Trustee Cody Lamb seconded and the motion carried on a 5–0 vote.
The Board also reviewed capital projects and contract activity tied to ongoing construction. Project manager Zane Schrader updated trustees on progress and recent change orders to the parking lot and softball field project; he said the work has uncovered unsuitable soils in spots and additional repairs were recommended. The Board approved several change orders totaling tens of thousands of dollars to address unforeseen site conditions and ensure code-compliant repairs are made.
Superintendent Miguel Barriga thanked staff for the work on the interim package and noted the district continues to track enrollment and construction costs as the master plan and ag classroom project progress. Davisson said the district will continue to present updated financial information to the Board if new costs arise. The Board will monitor revenues and capital spending before making any further budget adjustments.
