Board approves new fire prevention inspector classification and salary ranges

Ashley Hernandez, human resources analyst, asked the board to approve a job specification and salary ranges for a new Fire Prevention Inspector I/II series. She presented ranges for Inspector I ($4,463–$5,406.46/month) and Inspector II ($4,930–$6,016/month) and said the classification will be flexibly allocated to allow advancement from level 1 to level 2 based on experience.
Hernandez estimated the first-year cost for one Inspector II at about $60,663 in salary and $94,323 with benefits for fiscal year 2026–27 and said the cost has been incorporated into the fire department’s recommended budget. The fire chief said the position will let the fire marshal focus on intervention, risk reduction and other non‑inspection duties. The board moved, seconded and approved the job specification and salary resolution by roll call.
