Council approves Main Street closure for Los Mezcales festival and other downtown events

The council authorized downtown street closures and outdoor liquor permits for two summer/fall events.
Michael Chatterton, city clerk, described Los Mezcales’ application to close Main Street between 2nd and 3rd on Aug. 8 (4 p.m.–midnight) and requested a special designated license for outdoor liquor sales. Applicant Jose Ortiz said this is the event’s second year, that he had notified and involved nearby businesses (including Epicentro and local shops) and planned activities ranging from food vendors to demonstrations. Council members discussed neighbor notification and fairness for other applicants; city staff agreed to strengthen outreach for future events. The Los Mezcales application passed 8–0.
Council also approved a special‑event application for 505 Brewing Company’s fall festival on Oct. 3 with staff noting security arrangements and recommending approval; council voted 8–0.
