Midco, Frontier brief commissioners on RDOF, BEAD interest and timelines

Ellie Burrows, government relations manager for Midco, told commissioners Midco remains committed to its RDOF service areas in Pine County and is evaluating BEAD/BEED opportunities; she said Midco is working on construction schedules and expects to begin locally in 2026, subject to change. "We plan to complete the preregistration period and look to find those opportunities in Pine County," Burrows said.
Todd Cruz, representing Frontier Communications, described construction realities and noted industry consolidation: "Frontier itself is being acquired by Verizon," Cruz said, adding that if grant awards are won those assets and obligations would become Verizon’s subject to regulatory approvals. Cruz and other providers emphasized permitting, locates and the short construction season as recurring constraints for 2025 builds and asked for county/township coordination to speed approvals.
