Future-growth demo flags higher exposure in some areas under sea-level-rise scenarios

Fernleaf demonstrated the platform’s ability to compare current and future flood scenarios using Woodwell and other datasets. Matt Hutchins drew a custom study area and ran a future-condition query that, for that example area, returned a figure of "32% of residential properties within that broad area" as vulnerable under the future Woodwell condition.
The demo also highlighted open-space and vacant parcels in flood-prone areas and raised questions about how growth of those parcels could change community-level risk. Matt noted that the tool assesses exposure of properties within flood extents rather than performing a full structure-level vulnerability assessment; the session flagged the need to check ordinance and construction-year attributes before concluding development risk.
"So just in that small area I redrew, we can see there's... vacant lands in flood prone areas," Matt Hutchins said, highlighting the potential for future development to increase residential or commercial exposure; the precise count cited in the live demo should be confirmed through an exported query.
