SCI/Savage Communications outlines 400‑mile build plan, aims for 2‑gig service

Scott Savage, vice president of business development at SCI (Savage Communications), presented the company’s Pine County map and recent activity, saying SCI has built about 300 miles of underground fiber in the area and has committed to roughly 400 additional miles over the next two years. "So our in the end, our goal is to get 50% take rate," Savage said, describing how take rates typically rise over several years after construction and outreach.
Savage said the company’s committed map (shown in yellow) covers Hinkley North and other polygons supported by a mix of private capital and grant awards, including Border‑to‑Border and congressional reconnect funds. He told the board SCI’s deployments are fiber‑to‑the‑home with 2 Gbps symmetrical speeds and the capacity to support up to 10 Gbps in the future; the firm expects targeted sections to be built by 2027 but cautioned permitting, environmental reviews and labor shortages remain constraints.
