Greensboro announces Elm Street pilot closures, parking accommodations and Aug. 10 info session

The City of Greensboro announced a pilot project that will close parts of Elm Street from August through October, starting this weekend, city staff said in the weekly flash briefing.
“The city continues to work with downtown businesses and neighbors ahead of the pilot project that will close parts of Elm Street August through October starting this weekend,” the staff member said. City staff said the south-end closure zone has been moved up to the north edge of Bain Street to address critical parking needs.
City officials said residents in the 200 block of Elm will be allowed some free parking in the Green Street parking deck during the roughly 90-day closure, and that parking in the Green Street deck will be free on weekends during the program's first month. The briefing also announced a drop-in information session at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce office on Monday, Aug. 10, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. for downtown businesses, residents and other interested parties to learn details and ask questions.
City staff encouraged residents to look for updates and additional details on the city's official website and outreach channels. The briefing emphasized the accommodation for nearby residents and the adjusted closure boundary as steps intended to reduce impacts on parking while the pilot is in effect.
