Pathways asks county to maintain $10,000 support as reentry caseloads rise

Dennis Compton, finance director for Pathways, described the shelter's service load and reentry programming outcomes. He said Pathways provided more than 10,000 bed nights in 2025 and that stays are lengthening; the organization reported 114 clients through 2026 to date and a waiting list of 24 families.
Compton asked the county to maintain annual support at $10,000 (the commission had provided $10,000 in prior years) and explained that reentry services — including transportation, counseling and help securing identification — impose costs not covered by grants. He also said juvenile reentry programming saw higher success rates (about 75–80%) than adult reentry outcomes and that Pathways uses bond and grant funds to operate the diversion program.
"In 2025, we provided 10,254 bed nights to 28 families and 63 individuals," Compton said. Commissioners thanked the organization and said they would consider the request as revenue numbers and priorities become clearer in the provisional budget work.
