Planned Clinton Keith–Nutmeg modification would add protected left phasing, not new lanes

Commissioner Rose asked whether the Clinton Keith and Nutmeg project is a signal reprogramming or a full reconstruction of lanes. Senior Civil Engineer James Ozaf said the intersection currently functions as a "free left" and staff proposes to change it to a protected‑left phasing to improve safety and signal coordination. Ozaf added the project will install a new pole and mast arm to properly align signals and reach opposing traffic, but it will not create or reconfigure travel lanes.

"So with this modification, we plan to make it a protected left turn phasing as most signals are within the city," Ozaf said, adding that the work is intended to improve coordination and safety. The commission had no further questions on design; any construction schedule or funding would be determined later by council action.
