ASB students present 'Recess Lab' mentorship program to Lammersville board

Students from the district's ASB presented "Recess Lab," a structured recess space intended for students who want or need a calmer, more predictable recess environment. An ASB presenter summarized the program as: "Recess lab is a structured space for students who want or need a more structured recess environment." The presentation described activities—board and movement games, a drawing station—and a mentor-buddy system used to help younger students return to class.

Trustees and attendees responded positively, praising both student initiative and staff support. Trustee Boulet said the program was "on the right path," and multiple trustees noted how the structure supports executive function and peer mentorship. Students gave concrete examples, including using a one-minute spinning activity as a timed transition that helped a TK student return to class without difficulty.

Board members asked a few clarifying questions and encouraged continued collaboration with site staff. The presentation ended with trustees thanking students and noting that the program's hands-on mentoring provides benefits both to the younger participants and to the student mentors themselves.
