Rowlett City Council adopted a resolution April 21 awarding fiscal-year 2026 cultural arts grants and Gary Alexander arts and education grants, acting on a recommendation from the Arts and Humanities Commission.
Councilmember Alisa Bowers spoke in support of the grants during discussion, placing the city’s $5,000 education grants in a broader statewide context: she cited per-student spending comparisons and noted the economic footprint of the arts in Texas. Bowers said, “I think that, spending $5,000 on a Gary Alexander arts in education grant is a great way to, award grant money,” and moved adoption of the resolution. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
The resolution was approved as a separate vote after a request to pull item 4B from the consent agenda for individual consideration. Council did not amend the program or the award amounts during the meeting.
