Commissioners hear SPLOST role in funding fire, EMS and E911 upgrades

County presenter Christian told commissioners that SPLOST has been used to fund county fire services, ambulances and E911 upgrades and that the board intends to continue those allocations in SPLOST 8.
"For SPLOST 7, our most recent SPLOST, nearly $2,000,000 was provided for county fire needs, including fire apparatus response vehicles and other needs," the presenter said. He added that nearly $750,000 was provided for ambulance purchases in the same cycle and that three ambulances have been purchased to replace older units.
Commissioners noted that EMS and E911 are countywide services and stressed the need to preserve funding for those services even if municipalities pursue different distribution options under SPLOST 8.
