The Human Services Agency asked the board Aug. 26 to authorize an amendment to its contract with a furniture vendor to complete furnishing at 1500 Fashion Island Boulevard, the county’s new consolidated HSA office. HSA said moving from three leased buildings into a single county‑owned site will reduce lease costs by an estimated $5.6 million per year.
HSA staff described the phased remodel (third floor completed; second and first floors pending), the functional layouts (110 workstations and 21 offices on the second floor; an eligibility service center, employment resource center and client interview stations on the first floor) and the request for roughly $3.1 million to furnish the first two floors. The board approved the contract amendment by roll call; staff said the expenditure will be covered by departmental reserves and that a separate construction contract for phase 3 will be returned to the board for approval.
Supervisor Corso praised the planning and the long‑term savings argument; no public opposition was recorded on the item.
