Fairfax capacity and creek-crossings project gets notice to proceed; construction set to begin

General Manager Steve updated the board that the Fairfax capacity and creek-crossings project — which the board approved last month — is moving ahead after a contractor bid protest was resolved and the district issued a notice to proceed.
"I believe even today we had a notice to proceed that was officially given to the contractor. And the 1st day of construction is next Monday, July June 22," Steve said, noting the district obtained the encroachment permit from the town of Fairfax and is working with the town on permit fees and scope clarification. He added the district had done more public outreach on this project than others in the last eight years and presented at a recent Fairfax town council meeting.
Staff told the board they expect construction to start shortly and are coordinating fee and right-of-way details with Fairfax to reduce initial permit costs where possible. The board thanked staff and counsel for the outreach and noted the project team aims to complete priority work before the next wet season.
