The Huron City Commission approved a memorandum of understanding with the State of South Dakota to provide collection-truck services for the State Fairgrounds through Sept. 8, 2026.
Staff explained the arrangement has been used for several years: the State Fair will hire the driver (a city employee assigned to work for the fair to meet insurance requirements) while the city will manage roll-offs and the flow of garbage to the city's system so that city staff do not work on the fairgrounds during fair week. "Basically, we've been doing this for several years," a staff member said, describing details such as the fair hiring the driver and the city handling roll-offs. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the MOU by roll call.
City staff said paperwork was in order and that the arrangement allows the fair to operate with adequate service while meeting insurance and labor expectations. No additional financial terms were discussed in detail during the meeting.
