Human Development Commission: central kitchen replaces sold facility; seniors' meals continue

Christie Sutherland of the Human Development Commission updated commissioners that the HDC’s local kitchen used for senior meal preparation was sold in late July, requiring the agency to shift meal production to a central kitchen in Carry (as stated in the record).

Sutherland said staff are working to maintain services, delivering home-delivered meals three days a week and providing congregate meals in Lexington, Marlette and Sandusky. She described new satellite activities — trips to the movies and local outings — as efforts to keep seniors socially engaged while the agency transitions its operations.

"We no longer have that kitchen," Sutherland said, noting the change forced rapid operational adjustments but that in the long run centralizing kitchen operations could produce cost savings for Sanilac County and partner counties. She invited board feedback and said HDC remains committed to providing high-quality services to county seniors.
