Board approves $138,946 wheelchair-lift bus to expand student transport

District staff said the bus purchase is being processed through the state bid process and specifically called out the lift-equipped configuration as the reason for the purchase. “That bus is a unique bus to us because they had a lift to assist students, who need assistance to get on and off the bus,” a staff member said during the announcements.
Board members moved and seconded the purchase (motion moved by Mary, seconded by Jill) and approved it by voice vote. Staff indicated the bus will allow the district to transport students whose families had been providing rides and will be in service starting next fall after delivery and assignment.
The purchase was included in the meeting’s action items and is funded through the recommended procurement process; further scheduling and assignment details will be handled by the transportation department.
