Surveyor outlines stormwater capital fund and warns of regional salt supply gap

County surveyor Greg Lake asked commissioners to seed a new stormwater capital projects fund with $200,000 and said the Devon Woods project already has roughly $105,000 in contracts. ‘‘So stormwater took out of our 1197 account and put $200,000 into this account to start it,’’ he said, and described work now in the field to determine needed fixes.
Highway superintendent Amber briefed the board on materials supply problems: state‑run bidding produced no vendor for untreated salt in the Greenfield district, leaving several districts temporarily without a state contract for winter salt. Amber called the shortage “a little nervous” and said the county has a stockpile but warned prices and delivery may rise. She recommended contingency planning, including potential purchases off the state bid if needed and expanded brine use to reduce salt demand.
