Board approves $536,200 contract to upgrade fire sprinklers in portable classrooms

The board voted to approve a facilities lease agreement amendment and a $536,200 general construction contract with Roblin Contracting, pending Division of the State Architect (DSA) approval, to upgrade the fire sprinkler systems in Mountain House High School portables.
Staff explained the district originally leased eight portables temporarily and later decided to purchase them; state rules require sprinkler work after three years. The project will bring the units up to permanent portable standards and staff said the sprinkler systems will remain attached to the portable units when they are relocated to other campuses in the district.
Trustees asked whether the portables would remain at the high school permanently. Staff clarified the portables will stay while needed for current enrollment and scheduling; eventually the district plans to move them to other sites to replace older portables. The motion carried by roll call with five ayes.
