Board approves reciprocal athletic-field maintenance agreement with City of Monroe

The Monroe School District Board on July 27 voted to approve a reciprocal athletic-field maintenance agreement with the City of Monroe that formalizes shared maintenance and use of athletic facilities at the new high school.
Superintendent Joe said the city’s Parks & Forestry department has the equipment and expertise to maintain turf and other fields, and in exchange the city would be allowed to use the district’s baseball and softball complex for city events and tournaments. “From our perspective, I think from for the community, this is a good example of ways in which we can collaborate and find ways to realize efficiency and saving across the agencies,” Joe said.
Administration told the board the agreement had been reviewed and unanimously approved by the city committee (Josh Tramey’s committee). Board members discussed annual review of the arrangement and examples of prior reciprocal arrangements with the YMCA and Park & Rec, and then approved the recommendation by motion and voice vote.
