IRST seeks clearer questions; AMPC told to focus monitoring on most uncertain goals

Members of the research subcommittee told the AMPC that when they met with IRST, the IRST team pushed for more specific research questions and clearer scope. Josh reported that IRST asked for clarification before diving into design work, and the presenters stressed that more specific prompts will yield more useful proposals.

"They did agree that, prioritizing effectiveness monitoring for those biological goals and objectives that have greater uncertainty and/or a greater potential scientific ... uncertainty, or greater potential impact to protected resources was the way to prioritize what we would be focusing our initial effectiveness monitoring on," Josh said. Several members and presenters discussed whether socioeconomic and policy questions should shape the research questions to be sent to IRST or be handled later by AMPC once scientific findings are returned.
