Staff read the city's policy language: "It is the city's policy to recognize residents, former residents, city officials and employees, other elected officials, and distinguished persons on special occasions of distinguished service... Recognition may be accomplished by way of plaques, certificates, proclamations, notice in the city newsletter... and other similar methods as may be appropriate." Several residents who brought the idea said they were willing to pay for a small plaque and urged the council to keep flexibility for modest recognition. Council voted to receive and file and asked staff to present policy language if a donation or meritorious contribution comes forward that would warrant a change or addition to policy.
