Chesterfield residents push back on proposed siren pole, urge field mock-ups and tighter timeline

Multiple Chesterfield residents attended the June 22 meeting to oppose a potential siren pole in their neighborhood and to ask for clearer plans and testing.
Dina Swanson Zellecki (33 Portuguese Bend Road) told council, "a siren pole is, an atrocious imposition on our corner of the Rolling Hills community." She asked that decisions be driven by clear cost-benefit analysis and not by prior sunk costs. Other Chesterfield speakers supported mock-ups, asked for specific dates for any soft launch, and requested closer collaboration with block captains and association leaders to test the Safe units in a concentrated area.
Council members acknowledged the concerns and directed staff to conduct visible mock-ups at proposed sites and provide more precise timing for the soft launch. The outreach plan will include a primary impacted area and a secondary ring of notification to capture nonadjacent residents who rely on the streets passing by a proposed pole.
